A cost-free initiative that brings beatmaking and coding to life. Our workshops unlock the potential of middle and high school students in historically underrepresented communities – empowering them to program musical beats using block-based coding. Over the past year, Beats Unlocked (BU) has impacted over 1,500 learners across the United States.
Workshops include:
- Introduction to music production
- Introduction to engineering, block-based coding, the importance of STEAM, and similarities between music and coding

- Certificate of Completion for all participating students

Description: Your journey will transport you on a private wind farm back in time 40 years ago to the present. The tour will encompass the successes and failures exhibited by inventors and engineers at the beginning of the “Wind Rush” in the 80’s to the modern sleek designs we see today. You will learn about how this farm was first established by one individual investor and how it has developed to be an energy corridor. This tour will allow you to get up close to an operating modern turbine that is as tall as the Statue of Liberty. Not only will you be able to get up close to real operating wind turbines over 400 feet high, our expert guides will easily be able to describe the inner workings of wind turbines and how they contribute to our energy grid. Everyone will be able to leave the tour with a better understanding of how this renewable energy is fast becoming part of our energy solution. Great photo opportunities to last a lifetime.

Jayshree Seth who is a Corporate Scientist at 3M and leads the Applied Technology Development for Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division will discuss the future success of businesses, economies, and humanity hinges on the continued advancement of science, and the development of sustainable innovations. This in turn, is dependent on the inclusion of diverse perspectives inside our organizations, and in our communities, to bring creative thinking, innovative mindset, and scientific prowess together with lived experience to solve real-world problems. Jayshree will provide an overview of the 3M State of Science Index, a global research initiative to uncover what people think of science, and how the pandemic has shaped the public’s thinking. Many of the findings highlight the importance of a healthy pipeline of diverse scientists, technologists, and engineers to solve the complex and global humanitarian challenges we face. The presentation will include Jayshree’s reflections from a childhood where she didn’t think she belonged in STEM, to a successful career in science, and her perspective on leadership for the path forward.
